Other than that, what’s not to like, especially now that it’s $50 less than the $700 I paid for it? It’s 14″, so it’s transportable. Has a DVD drive, a ton of memory, is really fast. Multiple programs run easily. Battery lasts about three hours, but can last longer with wireless/ speakers turned off.

In contrast to some negative reviews, I have had zero problems with the computer overheating. The only reasons I can think to not purchase it are if you wanted either Bluetooth or Bluray capabilities directly installed, as it doesn’t have either.

Some reviewers have mentioned overheating, and I was apprehensive about this — and after buying I was constantly monitoring the temp to see if a return was in my immediate future. But really it’s not so bad, better than my last Sony, and I do believe that having the i3 processor (still blazing fast, mind you) minimizes this problem in this configuration. But if heat is your number one concern, sacrifice more computing power and go for one of the new super-mobile types with the dainty processors. They will stay cooler of course.

Overall, I am extremely pleased with this purchase and would recommend this HP laptop to my friends, family, and to all of you!

There is a shoulder strap and a metal hook for a belt or belt hoop. Without the shoulder strap it’s not really bulky.

Windows 7 works well. Most things are in different places than XP but it’s easy to find them.

This system has a basic graphics card. The Windows Experience numbers warn that the Aero interface will be sluggish sometimes, and I definitely feel that’s true.

The hard drive impressively large, although not all the 500GB is usable. It is split up into three partitions. One is the system restore partition (since Windows install discs are not included), and one is the quickstart partition (a fast starting non-Windows environment that lets you surf the web and browse your media collection), so the hard drive really has only around 320 mb free when you get it. That’s lots for your pictures, videos, music, etc. It’s also quite speedy.

4GB RAM standard, which should be more than enough, except that about 1.5 GB are used for the integrated graphics so you only have around 2.5 GB for programs. In the future, when RAM prices come down, I’ll be upgrading to 8GB of RAM.

The only ads on the machine are trials of Norton Internet Security 2010 1-User, and Microsoft Office Standard 2007 FULL VERSION, prominent links to HP’s accessories store (buy from Amazon instead), an ad for an online backup service, and an icon for one of Amazon’s competitors (a Bay Area auction site). Not bad.

I have no problems with overheating here. The touch panel for adjusting volume is very very useful.

I have found it to be just as informative as the other “Mastering” Books i’ve had from Mark Minasi.

Hes covered everything I’d expect from a book like this and its easy to follow.

The diet plan section was too brief and did not go into enough detail. The cardio section was dismal at best. Some of the nutritional information was iffy, like High Fructose Corn Syrup being nutritional similiar to sugar,that’s a crock. Look up HFCS and find out how they manufacture it. Any synthetic food should be limited, but natural is better thank synthetic, and as the book states both should be limited. But it didn’t say any of the harmful effects that HCFS has on your liver and how it’s works harder trying to process HFCS. My theory, if God didn’t grow it, don’t eat it.

What I did like was the exercises, I like how the sections were divided and how it went into detail describing the muscles being worked for that section and why it is important to work that particular muscle group. It’s very easy to navigate through and it has exercises to perform for home or for the gym.

I think the price is too high for what they deliver, but if you can find it cheaper than the listed retail price which is 24.99 plus shipping which is nearly $4, I say go for it. But it’s definitely not worth 28.00.

I will be sending this book back and keeping the Men’s Big Book for my husband.

I also love how its 14″ monitor, so I can take it anywhere and fit it into any bag. It has a very sleek and glossy exterior. A little bit of work to keep clean, but that’s no reason not to buy a computer. The speakers are great for a laptop. I was actually surprised how clear sounds and music was. As with most HP laptops, you get the lightscribe burner, which is great, but it also comes with a disc replacement thing so if you don’t care to use a disc drive, you can remove it and save some weight. But really it doesn’t weigh that much.

The only downfall I have with this computer is the slightly low battery life. I think a little bit of that might be my fault cause I just plugged in and played rather than letting the battery charge fully first before I started playing with it.

Great laptop for the price.

Advanced Systems Engineers will need more specialist books but I highly recommend this to Intermediate level administrators or Desktop support people wanting to move to Level 3 server support.

I’ve been working with Windows Server 2008 R2 since the first TechNet Beta was released back in, I think it was, January of ’09. I spent hours diving into the new features and then did the same with the release candidate and the RTM. However, I’ve had this book for less than two days and I’ve already encountered several excellent sections that clarified poorly written Microsoft documentation or provided new thoughts for the same technologies Microsoft covers in a different way.

The team for this book seems to have changed from the excellent team that delivered the Server 2003 Update Edition book and I was a little concerned when I saw this; however, my concerns were not well-founded. This team may be the best that Mark has ever put together for his Mastering series of books.

Now, for those who’ve worked with Windows Server 2008 over the past couple of years, you will love the small but important sections all through the book that cover “New… in Windows Server 2008 R2″. You can replace the … with Active Directory, TCP, DNS and many more. The point is that the book works for those completely new to Server 2008 or 2008 R2 and it helps those who’ve worked with Server 2008 find those nuggets of newness related only to Server 2008 R2. One of my favorite features, which the book addresses, is the new ability to use Server Manager to manage remote Windows Server 2008 R2 machines.

I can give this excellent book no less than five stars. Way to go team Minasi! This series is back on track.

- Small size and little weight (even lighter when DVD is removed, which is an excellent feature in itself)

- Windows 7 (better than Vista, we’ll see about XP)

Cons:

- Battery life is about 2 hours, bound to decrease within 6 months, not on par with most other laptops this size.

- Touchpad really has a mind of its own on ocassion.

- Glossy design is beautiful, but it’s also a fingerprint magnet

- Opening it is a cumbersome task, not really bad, but a little.

- Windows 7 “64bit” – Some old programs I use refuse to work in such environment.

All in all a solid laptop, with excellent features (and minor inconveniences), but please, HP, this is my third HP laptop and the batteries have never been your forte. (yet I keep buying HP) DO SOMETHING!

UPDATE: The battery won’t last for more than an hour and a half, so I took two stars off my review for this major inconvenience. Sorry to say this, but I no longer recommend this purchase.

The book is broken down into chapters dedicated to body parts: Chest, Back, Shoulders, Arms, Quadriceps & Calves, Glutes & Hamstrings, Core, as well as chapters for Total Body and Warmup Exercises. There is also a chapter on how to put various exercises together for specific-goal workouts (e.g. “The Get Your Body Back Workout”, “The Skinny Jeans Workout”, “The Bikini-Ready Workout”, “The Best Sports Workout”, “The Best Three-Exercise Workouts”). In addition, there are chapters dedicated to Nutrition, Cardio Workouts, the importance of Weights, etc.

All in all, this is an extremely comprehensive book that is not at all about gimmicks or shortcuts but is simply well researched and well presented. It will literally replace several books I’ve bought on this subject in past years. I’m not easily impressed by books on this subject and yet I’m extremely impressed by this compilation. Well done Adam Campbell and contributors!

The one major reason that I took a star off is that the watch does NOT have a green face like the picture. Some watches, like an Armitron a friend has, glow green depending on the angle. I thought I was getting similar technology here but the dial face is just black numbers on greyish silver white background. When illuminated, it turns blue; it never has the green face. I would have returned it had it cost more, but it is not worth it here.

I am surprised no one has yet mentioned this. Maybe I got a lemon?

1. It beeps every time you push a button (except for the Indiglo button). On the Ironman that’s only the case when the hourly chime is on.

2. The countdown timer doesn’t save the last entry. For example, if you set it to count down 5 minutes and stop it with one minute left, the timer just stays set to one minute. If you want to count another five minutes, you have to reset it. Not a huge deal but kind of anoying.

One nice difference is the Indiglo button – instead of just staying on while you hold it (unless you hold it down for a few seconds), one push lights the face for several seconds. The buttons are also a lot easier to push.

— Update —

After three years, the resin band started to split, and I had to replace the watch (or continue using duct tape). The little tie thing that holds the band together broke way before that, and I had to use rubber bands and twist ties to hold it together. I’m removing a star from my rating due to the relatively short lifespan of the band.

This isn’t the case with this watch. I opted for a sports watch because I was fed up to the bleedin’ eyeballs with having chain link watches breaking all the time on me (and not all of them were that cheap either.) I also wanted a watch to go jogging with as well, so I opted for this beauty because of its price and its countdown timer.

I was not disappointed, it is a lot smaller than I thought it will be, which is a bonus as it is disheartneing to go jogging with what feels like a leadbrick swinging from your arm, but it still feels solid and compact all the time – what I am trying to say is that this Timex doesn’t ‘feel’ cheap.

I wasn’t expecting much with the watch but I am very please with it. I initially bought it as a cheap knockaround watch but I wear it all the time now!

The options are also fairly easy to use, stopwatch, countdown (upto an hour I think), alarm, etc. The illumination is also very good when in dark places.

I have had the watch one month so I cannot guarantee it will last a long time but so far I have no problems with it at all. Well worth the price though, and wouldn’t swap this watch for most of the more expensive watches I have had.

There are cheaper watches out there, but for the extra pennies (or cents) it is worth getting this.

I have quoted at some length from an almost randomly selected passage on muscle sensory receptors to give you a chance to see for yourself what Guyton and Hall do. If this sort of thing sounds like gobbledygook to you, then avoid this book. If it sounds obvious and trite, you too should not bother with this book. (You may be one of the two types of readers I discuss below.) But if, like me, you knew about muscle spindles but didn’t know the actual mechanisms and, like me, find the clarity, completeness, and detail of this description extraordinarily exciting, then Guyton and Hall may be just what you’re looking for.

I can imagine two types of readers for whom Guyton and Hall will not work, both represented fairly well among the other reviewers here. One is, so to speak, below the book, the other above it. The book will suit neither those coming to anatomy and physiology for the first time (unless they are extremely intelligent and motivated) nor those whose grasp of the English language is slight (either because English is their second language or because they read and write rarely). For beginning students, Marieb’s book is probably better. I’m not sure what to recommend to those who find Guyton and Hall verbose instead of astonishingly precise, other than more experience reading English sentences with more than two clauses. As for those who are above the book, who find it repetitive or expansive rather than concise and abbreviated, it may be that in fact you are looking for something other than what this book offers.

My experience as a student and teacher for many years has shown me that some people seek a kind of instant knowledge, like a microwaved meal, so that they can pass a test above all quickly. Indeed, there may be more and more of these people as time goes on. For these, a briefer review text, as Ganong is said to be, will always be preferable. But if you seek in-depth and permanent understanding that comes from prolonged thinking about connections and patterns in detail, then I can hardly imagine a better text than Guyton and Hall. It has electrified me with insight on virtually every page.

The one criticism that I might agree with concerns the illustrations, charts, and diagrams: they are all in black/gray and red only. But I love even these, because their Spartan quality emphasizes that it is your own imagination that must properly depict the subject. And for aiding that the illustrations are excellent–utterly clear, precise, and purposive, just like the book as a whole.

There are great stories in here, some of course better than others, but for the price of admission, they are all worth it. I like short stories because I can finish one or two during my lunch break.

Favorites so far: “Murdermouth” and “Watermelon” I haven’t finished the book yet, but really liking what I read. I will definately buy the others.

Reviews for this company were good. Reviews for this produt stank so I should have dug deeper. Now I’m out the shipping charges (both ways). If you researched this computer a week ago you’d see a drastic price drop because the stuff doesn’t work.

However, not all sections in this book, like not all sections in Berne and Levy are excellent. I recommend supplementing reading in Respiratory physiology by West or weinburg, Renal Physiology by rose or vander, and GI with Johnson. Cardio use B/L-it’s the best. Endocrine, Guyton is good. Nerve and Muscle physiology use Berne and Levy; and Neurophysiology I highly recommend reading Neuroscience by Purves and Essentials of Neuroanatomy, Neurophysiology by Gilman.
