I purchased this at a B&M two years ago and took it around the world (literally). I wanted an all black, non-bulky backpack for my 15″ wide-screen laptop (HP dv6 currently) and this fit the bill. The padded laptop area fits my 15″x10″x1.5″ laptop with the top of the laptop sticking out about an inch, but still fits inside of the bag without blocking the zipper. Quick access to the laptop via the twin zippers, just unzip enough to pull out the laptop without having to completely unzip the bag. Convenient at the airport.
It has just enough room in the main storage area for a folder or two, the power brick, a full sized wired mouse, a point and shoot camera, and a book. Inside the main area are three zippered pouches, one (mesh see-through) against the padded laptop area and two (over/under solid fabric) against the front of the bag. The mesh pouch I use to hold a couple screen cleaning cloths and as temporary storage for a DVD or CD, the top pouch holds my USB hard drive and cord, the bottom pouch I have not utilized but would be decent for spare cords. There are four outer pouches, two on the outward face, one on the side and one on the right hand shoulder strap. The top of the outer two holds my 6′ CAT5 cable, 6′ phone cord, MP3 USB cord, and two USB sticks. It has and inner un-sealed pouch sized for a cell-phone or PCMCIA card. The bottom zippered pouch has various holders for two pens, two business card sized slots, a passport sized slot, and two more slots for various small paperwork or what-not. Also included is an attached small plastic ring with a detachable pouch for two USB thumb drives and a separate detachable neck lanyard. The side zippered pouch is big enough to hold a check book, MP3 player, pens, and other small items. The shoulder strap pouch is setup for holding a cell phone or small MP3 player, it holds my Blackberry Storm with no problem but is rather snug. I prefer to keep my USB wifi finder in it for easy access.
The back of the bag and shoulder straps are padded with a nylon mesh that helps keep the covered areas from sweating during extended wear. A nylon hand carry strap is connected between the two shoulder straps at the top and is padded as well. This bag has been with me for numerous flights, car rides, and sailing on the high seas without getting any noticeable marking or wear. It is very well constructed. The only item I had an issue with were the shoulder strap adjustment lines, they have no place to go once you have adjusted your straps and just hang there. I ended up tying them together so when worn they are out of the way.
The picture makes it look bulker than it is, the bag is slim and the top curves inward unless you have it completely filled out. It does not stand upright on it’s own. This is not a bag for someone that wants to carry a ton of equipment/clothes/text books/etc or make a fashion statement. It is what it is; an affordable, unobtrusive, low profile laptop bag. Not bad with a suit or street clothes.
