If you want to buy me a gift for christmas, don’t get me a wristwatch. Not because I don’t like wristwatches, I love them. I’m just extremely picky about the right kind of watch. When it comes to watches, I’m a tough customer. Why? A good watch is something that’s ALWAYS on your person! A good watch should last 3-5 years on average. Additionally, I want a wrist watch that has a vibrating alarm, chronometer, compass and ideally a temperature gauge as well ALL in analog! That said, this watch is a decent product. I only give it three stars because it lacks the other features I crave for a watch, but for it’s solid design and chronometer, it’s great. I would have preferred the option of a metal band, but for the price, this is a VERY professional-looking pilot-like watch.

I find it hard to make out the time in the dark because the hour, minute, and second hands can be easily misread. I am 81 years old and have weak vision without my glasses.

I’ve had bad experiences with Timex in the past. But I like this watch and I am giving it a chance to change my mind on Timex. So far so good.

I bought this watch for my brother. I purchase the version with the white face/black complications/metal bracelet and posted a more full review there:

Timex Men’s Expedition Premium Collection Chronograph Silver-Tone Stainless Steel Bracelet Watch #T42331

In short, this is a great watch. I just wanted to make a couple comments based on other reviews of the watch:

The instuctions: Yes, they are printed on very thin paper and aren’t the best, but they were easily understood by us both. This watch does a lot, so expect to explore all of its features for a bit. It’s much more than a “set it and forget it” watch.

The second hand: Yes, the seconds are counted in the dial at 6 o’clock, and the big “second hand” is used for the chrono. The reason for this is that you can use this hand with the Tachymeter printed on the bezel. The only reason a Tachymeter bezel would move (as mentioned in another review) is for a watch that doesn’t use the “second hand” for the chrono, which means you could need to rotate the bezel to match up with where the actual second hand is when you want to start measuring time. Most watches will not show you how to use this – google “Tachymeter” for instructions on how to use it.
